EV Chargers · Level 2 at home

A full charge overnight, from a circuit that was built for it.

A Level 2 charger is a 40 to 60 amp appliance that runs for hours. It wants its own circuit, a panel with room to feed it, and a spot the car can reach.

The load calculation comes first

On a 100-amp service with central air and an electric range, a charger often means a bigger service. On 200 amps it is usually one circuit and a permit. Find out before the car arrives.

What the charger job covers:

  • Load calculation on the existing service
  • Dedicated 40 to 60 amp circuit
  • Hardwired or NEMA 14-50 outlet, your choice
  • Indoor garage or outdoor weatherproof mount
  • Charger supply and setup, or bring your own
  • Permit and inspection
